K-12 Outreach Efforts:
- Suggested and assisted with
Earth and Sky broadcasts:
- ``Discovery of Cosmic Rays'' broadcast March 2, 1998.
- ``ACE'' broadcast March 3, 1998.
- ``Space Weather'' broadcast March 4, 1998.
- ``Sunspots and Solar Wind'' broadcast March 5, 1998.
- ``Astronauts and Radiation'' broadcast March 6, 1998.
- Rewritten for special CDRom ``Kid's Earth & Sky''.
Earth and Sky is a syndicated program dedicated to geophysics,
space physics, and astronomy that is broadcast on over 950 commercial
and public radio stations nationwide with a listening audience of 3
million people.
- ``The Advanced Composition Explorer'',
C. W. Smith,
Invited Talk at the Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation
First Annual Space Science Symposium, University of Delaware,
November 1998.
- ``Space and Mankind'' presented at the University Gallery of Delaware,
May 20 -- November 1, 1999.
- The MAG team provided materials for the exhibit, as did the
JHU/APL team that built the spacecraft. A computer provided
a link to the ACE Real-Time Solar-Wind pages maintained by
NOAA/SEC and to the other ACE instrument pages.
- Over the 137 days that the exhibit was open to the public,
approximately 15,000 people visited the exhibition. In addition,
over 5,000 children at public and private schools, summer camps,
day care centers, church groups and those that are home-schooled
took part in special educational activities.
- ``Overview of Interplanetary Space,''
R. J. Leamon,
Invited Talk at the Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation
Second Annual Space Science Symposium, University of Delaware,
October 1999.
- ``Recent Results From The Advanced Composition Explorer Spacecraft,''
C. W. Smith,
Invited Talk at the Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation
Second Annual Space Science Symposium, University of Delaware,
October 1999.
- ``Recent Attempts to Understand Large Plasma Structures in Space,''
C. W. Smith,
Invited Talk at the Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation
Third Annual Space Science Symposium, University of Delaware,
November 2000.
- ``Is There Sound in Space?,''
C. W. Smith,
